Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) was developed to help improve patient adherence to home exercise programs and support patients out of the clinic. RTM refers to the use of digital technologies to monitor and capture therapeutic health data, such as PT adherence and changes in pain and function levels from patients, and transmits this information to their provider so they can better manage their patient’s care.
RTM enables improved engagement in a provider’s overall treatment plan and helps patients receive virtual support and communication in between their in-clinic appointments. Research shows that patients who receive check-ins and communications between office visits are 94% more likely to adhere to their home exercise program!
The goal of RTM is to provide clinicians real-time data, including whether their patients are adhering to their HEP and whether their patients’ pain and function is improving so that they have the most comprehensive information possible to oversee their care plan and intervene when appropriate. This will enable better support for patients in between visits, drive improved outcomes for patients, reduce unnecessary downstream costs (such as opioid use, surgery, etc.) and increase practice reimbursement.
